For many years Ambraseys was considered as the leading figure and absolute authority in earthquake engineering and seismology in Europe. This copy was presented to Ambraseys and a label to the front end-paper reads: "Presented to Prof N N Ambraseys in recognition of over 40 years advice to Black & Veatch, formerly Binnie & Partners, on the engineering aspects of earthquakes for projects worldwide."
