He had a long political career serving as a Conservative MP from 1864 until 1906, twice serving as Chancellor of the Exchequer and briefly as Leader of the Opposition in 1886. . Seven full page plates and four maps. xii + 356 pp. This copy is UNIQUE inasmuch all the plates and text illustrations, surpassing 100 in number, are handcolored (as are the maps), making many of them spring to life. In this form this book is extremely scarce, and possibly one of a kind. The gilding on front board is bright, on spine, somewhat dulled but still vivid. Shelfwear most evident in corners where cloth worn through. One plate and its tissue are detached, and this plate is chipped and has tear in right margin not affecting picture itself. Otherwise pages and plates are clean. Overall, VG minus to VG.
