He had a long political career serving as a Conservative MP from 1864 until 1906, twice serving as Chancellor of the Exchequer and briefly as Leader of the Opposition in 1886. . Shelfwear most evident in corners where cloth worn through. One plate and its tissue are detached, and this plate is chipped and has tear in right margin not affecting picture itself.
