A collection of three very scarce later printings of seventeenth century Muggletonian pamphlets. The Muggletons wer…e a small English religious sect founded by Lodowick Muggleton and John Reeve, who claimed to be the last prophets foretold in the Book of Revelation. Their beliefs included a rejected the Trinity, and the belief that God had a human form.The first of the three works in this volume is the 1753 printing of Lodowick Muggleton's 1673 work 'The Answer to William Penn, Quaker, his Book, entitled, The new Witnesses Proved old Hereticks'. Illustrated with a portrait frontispiece.This work offers a response to Penn's defence of Quaker beliefs against accusations of heresy.ESTC T91009. [3] B-T4, U2. Collated, complete.Ink inscription of 'Mr Lepper' to tail of page iv.The second work is the short 1720 printing of Lodowick Muggleton's August 2nd, 1680 work 'Lodowick Muggleton's Letter to Robert Peirce, Concerning the Holy Ghost'.In this letter, Muggleton details his rejection of Trinitarian doctrine, expressing his view that that the Holy Spirit was not a separate entity from God, who he believed existed in a singular anthropomorphic form.This edition is held by the University of Oxford Libraries, but not recorded in the ESTC.
