His account of his wartime experiences is a delight. .In 1950 and home again, he began writing and illustrating a highly successful series of humorous books on horses, dogs and sporting and rural life; the first being Tickner's Light Horse [followed by Ticker's Dog Licence, Tickner's Showpiece and many others].
