Noch gutes Exemplar. French language edition. Original half cloth folder with gilt embossed title on front cover. Title page, 23 plates. Folder rubbed, inner and outer folds with tears, inner flap with one backed tear. Title page foxy, slightly trimmed at the left margin of the sheet. Plates partly foxy, appr. 3 plates stronger, the margins and the backsides throughoutly stronger. 3 plates with crease marks at the borders, one small missing part at one sheet corner, one small tear at one margin. Still good copy.

Dimensions de la feuille : 57,2 x 41,7 cm ; Dimension du passe-partout : 70,3 x 49,8 cm Etat : Gravure montee sur onglet avec passepartout bleu et sous feuille plastique. Annotations au crayon sur passepartout. Voir photos et description pour plus de details. Apparues vers 1740, ces estampes etaient specifiquement concues pour etre visionnees a travers un appareil appele "zograscope" ou une lanterne magique. La perspective : Le dessin accentue volontairement les lignes de fuite pour creer une illusion de profondeur saisissante. L'inversion : Le titre en haut de la gravure est souvent imprime a l'envers (en miroir) pour apparaitre correctement une fois reflete dans le miroir de l'appareil d'optique. L'usage : Veritable ancetre de la 3D, elles permettaient aux curieux de l'epoque de "voyager" immobile a travers l'Europe et le monde.
