À l'automne 2021, le département des Arts de l?Islam du musée du Louvre organisait l?opération intitulée "Arts de l?Islam, un passé pour un présent". Cette opération vit 18 villes en France associer leurs collections à celles du département pour illustrer, à travers des expositions destinées à un très large public, la grande diffusion sur le territoire français des objets d?art islamique, mais aussi leur importance tant pour l?histoire des collections que pour leur influence sur des mouvements artistiques et créatifs locaux. La Bibliothèque nationale et universitaire et l?Université de Strasbourg furent partenaires de cette opération, via l?expositionL?Orient inattendu, du Rhin à l?Indus, dirigée par Nourane Ben Azzouna et Claude Lorentz, avec l?appui de Yannick Lintz, alors directrice du département. Le présent dépôt à la Bnu, pour trois ans, de 53 fragments de céramique originaires de Fustat en Égypte, conservés dans les réserves du département des Arts de l?Islam, se place dans la continuité de ce programme. Il participe également à la préfiguration du musée qui se prépare à Strasbourg, consacré à l?art et à l?archéologie des pays du Proche et du Moyen-Orient. Si l?histoire de Fustat et la variété des décors présentés ne manqueront pas d?attirer un public amateur d?art et d?histoire, cette sélection proposée par Carine Juvin révèlera aussi au visiteur l?intensité des échanges économiques et culturels entre cette ville au bord du Nil et l?ensemble du monde islamique, voire jusqu?en Chine.
