Farrar-Hockley, Anthony [General Sir Anthony Heritage Farrar-Hockley, GBE, KCB, DSO*, MC (8 April 1924 - 11 March 2006), affectionately known as 'Farrar the Para' , was a British Army officer and a military historian who distinguished himself in a number of British conflicts. He held a number of senior commands, ending his career as NATO's Commander-in-Chief Allied Forces Northern Europe. Throughout his four decades of army life, he spoke plainly, and both before and after his retirement in 1982 wrote effectively on the conflicts he had experienced and the First World War]. General Sir Hubert de la Poer Gough GCB, GCMG, KCVO (12 August 1870 - 18 March 1963) was a senior officer in the British Army in the First World War. A favourite of the British Commander-in-Chief, Field Marshal Sir Douglas Haig, he experienced a meteoric rise through the ranks during the war and commanded the British Fifth Army from 1916 to 1918.
