Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Substantial relief of discomfort may be anticipated by most patients suffering from pelvic and lower-extremity pain who are treated by arterial infusion of nitrogen mustard. Seventy-three patients with intractable pain secondary to malignancy aris…ing in the pelvis received 83 percutaneous pelvic arterial infusions of this drug. Sixty infusions (72%) resulted in marked relief from pain for periods averaging 6-8 weeks. Advantages of the procedure are low toxicity, relative simplicity and availability of technique, and an acceptable rate of complications with minimal morbidity. Patients experiencing satisfactory results may expect significant relief from a second infusion for recurrent pain. The most rewarding result is the freedom from the cyclic return of pain characterized by oral and intramuscular analgesic therapy. Little or no relief can be expected in patients with pain caused by compression fractures of the vertebrae, or where the tumor burden is so great that adequate perfusion of the involved nerves is not possible. One should consider this procedure for controlling pain before resorting to the more dangerous and potentially disabling techniques of spinal cordotomy or intrathecal alcohol injection. Bandes auf vier Einzel bande aus. Teil 3, die oto-rhino-Iaryngologischen Operationen im Mund- und Halsbereich von H.J. Denecke erschien Ende letzten Jahres. Der vorliegende Teil 4 erganzt dieses Buch und setzt den fruheren Beitrag von N. Guleke mit einer neuen Bearbeitung der allgemein-chirurgischen Eingriffe am Hals fort. Neben den Standardoperationen haben wir fUr den interessierten Leser auch weniger gebrauchliche Eingriffe (lymphovenose Anastomose, Entfernung des Glomus caroticum) aufgenommen. Das einleitende Kapitel uber die chirurgische Anatomie des Halses hielten wir als Basis einer erfolgreichen chirurgischen Therapie fUr besonders wichtig. Woes notwendig erschien, wurden Klinik und Pathophysiologie der Erkrankungen in gebotener Kurze dargestellt. Den Herren Professoren V. Schlosser (Eingriffe an den Blutgefiil3en) und W. Wolfart (Media stinoskopie) mochte ich fUr ihre Mitarbeit herzlich danken. Einen Teil der ausgezeichneten Abbildungen aus der letzten Auflage konnten wir wieder verwenden. Vieles mul3te neu gestaltet werden, wofUr wir den Zeich nern, dem verstorbenen Hans Brandt und Albert Gattung, zu grol3em Dank verpflichtet sind. Mein besonderer Dank fUr die Unterstutzung bei Planung und AusfUhrung dieses Buches gilt H.J. Denecke und seiner Frau sowie den Herausgebern, insbe sondere R.
