This copy has been signed by the author to the (then current) Viceroy and Vicereine of India - Lord and Lady Willington. This is a small format paperback book with heavy cardstock covers and a glued spine. The book is in Very Good- condition. The book covers have noticeable ground-in dirt and several spots of discoloration. There is light chipping to the spine ends and some bumping to the corners. The text pages are clean and bright. The frontispiece is by Pulinbehari Dutt. This is a book of poetry. "From 1913, Willingdon held gubernatorial and viceregal offices throughout the British Empire, starting with the governorship of Bombay and then the governorship of Madras, before he was in 1926 appointed as the Governor-General of Canada to replace the Viscount Byng of Vimy, occupying the post until succeeded by the Earl of Bessborough in 1931. Willingdon was immediately thereafter appointed as Viceroy and Governor-General of India to replace Lord Irwin (later created Earl of Halifax) , and he served in the post until succeeded by the Marquess of Linlithgow in 1936. Rear panel and front flap of original jacket tipped in on the rear pastedown and endpaper. A very good copy, the binding square and firm with a little bumping at the spine tips and corners of the partially faded boards. The contents, with a previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown and the author's compliments slip to the front endpaper are otherwise clean throughout. Inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper "For Lawrence Binyon / P. R. Kaikini / Khar / Bombay 21 July 1940". The English poet and dramatist Lawrence Binyon is perhaps best remembered for his poetical requiem to the casualties of WW1, "For the Fallen", that was later to be set to music by Edward Elgar and become part of his "The Spirit of England".
