Jacob und Wilhelm Grimm selbst arbeiteten in ihren letzten zwei Lebensjahrzehnten an vier Bänden für die Buchstaben A bis F. Das "Deutsche Wörterbuch" war nicht das einzige Werk, das sie in ihren Berliner Jahren schufen. Neben zahlreichen Abhandlungen für die Akademie der Wissenschaften schrieb Jacob Grimm beispielsweise seine "Geschichte der deutschen Sprache", und Wilhelm Grimm gab den"Kinder- und Hausmärchen" jene Formung letzter Hand, in der sie bis heute in aller Welt gelesen werden. Die Übersiedlung der Grimms nach Berlin im Jahr 1841 wurde durch ihr mutiges Auftreten im Verfassungskonflikt des Königreichs Hannover erforderlich. 1837 waren sie aus ihren Professorenstellen an der Universität Göttingen entlassen worden. König Friedrich Wilhelm IV. von Preußen stellte unmittelbar nach seiner Regierungsübernahme die Mittel zur Verfügung, um sie nach Berlin zu holen. Der Katalog zur Ausstellung aus Anlass des 150-jährigen Wörterbuch-Jubiläums zeichnet den Weg der Brüder Grimm nach Berlin nach, macht mit ihrem privaten Lebensbereich jener Zeit ebenso bekannt wie mit ihrer öffentlichen und wissenschaftlichen Arbeit und stellt Geschichte und Gegenwart ihres Wörterbuchs vor.
