An important work on forestry by the chief forester of the Bernese Oberland. Kasthofer, of Switzerland, who had studied in Heidelberg and Gottingen, was an "outstanding forestry man." Politicians of the regeneration period, author of a significant number of forest economic scriptures (HBLS). He pioneered Alpine forestry and even taught forestry and Alpine farming. He was elected to the Bernese Council (1837), advocating a policy in favor of supporting the local asylum and the creation of the canton of Jura *which was not realized until 1979).
