Endpapers printed with a map of Wiltshire (1773) on Glastonbury Amber Antique laid paper. With matching dustjacket printed in black and myrtle green, featuring a line-block reproduction of a print of Marlborough High Street (not repeated in the text). Very light discoloration to the tail of the spine; small tear and chip to bottom edge of dust jacket, in rear. Copy 236 of 420 copies produced, numbered and signed by author and illustrator on the limitation page. [Butcher 25]. A typographically refined anthology tracing the history and character of Marlborough and its surrounding countryside from the fifteenth century onward, bringing together a wide range of historical and literary sources. The basis of the book was E. G. H. Kempson's series of talks on the history of Marlborough given at the town library, with an added selection of prose and poems connected to the town.
