Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. "All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes, to make it possible." -T.E. Lawrence, Seven Pillars of Wisdom Seven Pillars of Wisdom (1922) by T. E. Lawrence is an autobiographical account of Lawrence's experiences as a member of the British Forces of North Africa based in Jordan during the Arab Revolt of 1916-1918. Thanks to a gift for writing, Lawrence was able to provide British readers with accounts of the events and his military adventures. This edition is a replica of an unofficial version of Seven Pillars of Wisdom that Lawrence circulated among friends four years before the first edition of the book was officially released in 1926. Shipping may be from our Sydney, NSW warehouse or from our UK or US warehouse, depending on stock availability. Kennington, Eric (illustratore). …

Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Second US Edition (Gift). This is the true second American Gift edition, being the scarcest and preferred issue with the Kennington decorated endpapers which had been designed for the1926 issue of Seven Pillars of Wisdom and with additional plates and illustrations over other editions. An elusive issue with 24 illustrations on full-page plates and with 17 b/w line cuts from the 1926 SP not in any other issue or edition of Revolt in the Desert either in the UK or USA.This is an interesting variant printing with the line drawing missing from page 127, the gathering being slightly shorter. This means that there must have been two different bindings of this Gift edition. All othe bibliographical poins exact, Not referred to in O'Brien or other bibliographies. With a folding map in black and red tipped in at the rear of the volume. 8vo, publisher's original tan polished buckram lettered in gilt on the spine. xvi, 335 pp. including the index. O'Brien A108 An nice bright copy of this edition. Kennington, Eric & Others (illustratore).…

Hardback. Condizione: Fine. First Limited Edition. A fine copy. Bound limited edition set of the portraits + Camel March taken from a proof set from the 1926 Subscribers edition of Seven Pillars of Wisdom, This is one of just 220 copies, The limitation page is hand-numbered in CHP customary reddish/brown ink, this copy being 214, bound by the Fine Bindery and printed by the Burlington Press in 1997. These are superb reproductions of the plates from the '26 SP in full colour. Bound in pale beige paper covered boards with title printed to front and with darker brown cloth spine. T.E. Lawrence commissioned illustrations for Seven Pillars of Wisdom from leading artists of the day. They were reproduced in colour in his lavish 1926 edition of the subscribers' abridgement. The most important of the illustrations were portraits. These showed readers not just faces, but also the exotic clothing worn by the Arab irregulars. The forty-one Seven Pillars Portraits are reproduced here full-page in the original colours, together with William Roberts' remarkable double-page 'Camel March'. Emir Feisal by Augustus John, oils, full colour. Kennington, Eric, Roberts, William, John, Augustus, Sargent, Dobson, Gill, Colin, Rothenstein, William, Nicholson, W. Spencer, G. (illustratore).…

Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Near Fine. 1st Edition. The first edition of Seven Pillars of Wisdom produced for general circulation, preserved in its scarce original 30 shilling dust jacket. LAWRENCE, T. E. Seven Pillars of Wisdom: A Triumph. Jonathan Cape, London, 1935. First trade edition, first impression, Quarto. Original brown buckram, gilt titles to spine, crossed scimitars and Lawrence's motto in gilt to upper board, brown top edge, fore and lower edges untrimmed. 672 pages. Illustrated with 48 plates, four folding maps and further illustrations throughout. Lawrence's account of the Arab Revolt of 1916-18 combines autobiography, military history, travel and political observation, tracing his role as British liaison officer with the Arab forces fighting the Ottoman Empire. The complete text had previously appeared only in Lawrence's celebrated privately printed editions, making this 1935 issue the first opportunity for a general readership to encounter the work in full. Published just weeks after his fatal motorcycle accident, it became the edition through which Seven Pillars of Wisdom entered literary and historical culture. Published on 30 July 1935, shortly after Lawrence's death. The first impression is identified by the illustration-list error placing 'A Forced Landing' at pages 302-303 rather than its actual position at 304-305. The survival of the original typographic dust jacket is particularly desirable. This example retains the printed 30s net price on the front flap. The brown buckram binding remains handsome, with the gilt device and lettering well preserved, and the text and illustrations present cleanly throughout. Jacket condition and other age-related details are shown in the photographs. Eric Kennington, Augustus John, William Roberts, John Singer Sargent, Paul Nash and others (illustratore). …

Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Fair. First Limited Edition. A very good copy in a rather worn d/w that shows signs of tape now removed. Nevertheless the d/w has done its job of protecting the binding. This is the large paper edition limited to 315 copies of which 300 were for sale. This copy Number 117. The size of the volume was dictated by the inclusion of the colour plates that were originally prepared for the legendary 1926 Subscribers edition of Seven Pillars of Wisdom and only issued in this edition. Altogether there are nineteen plates, the colour plates have tissue guards. Bound in brown buckram boards with dark pigskin spine lettered in gilt. In vg condition with very minor rub to top of spine. This is a handsome and imposing edition of a popular classic and is not really to be at all compared to the "ordinary" Cape trade edition, the colour plates are, as might be expected, sumptuous. In a letter to Wren Howard of Cape, TE commented, "The binding is surprisingly good: the paper excellent . The margins of course too big." Please ask if you require additional information on this volume. 446pp plus map. O'Brien A101. Kennington, Eric and Others (illustratore).…
