An Original Military Commission and Subsequent Discharge for Lieutenant Hugh Robert Duff in the 9th Regiment of Foot, signed by King William IV and Prime Minister Robert Peel, as Home Secretary. Dated 1830. Hugh Robert Duff was born in November 1805.1 He was the son of Hugh Robert Duff, 3rd of Muirtown and Sarah Louise Forbes.1 He died on 13 January 1830 at age 24 bigly likely in some military capacity. He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Grenadiers 9th Regiment. Size is 350mm x 230mm. Condition is good. Light age toning and creasing to top edge. More images can be taken upon request. Ref16789.       Paper. Condizione: Good. First Edition. An Original Royal Pardon for James Edwards of Monmouth Gaol signed by King William IV. William IV (William Henry; 21 August 1765 - 20 June 1837) was King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and King of Hanover from 26 June 1830 until his death in 1837. The third son of George III, William succeeded his elder brother George IV, becoming the last king and penultimate monarch of Britain's House of Hanover. Dated 16th June 1837 during his last illness, four days before his death. Royal Pardon reads - 'Whereas the Commissioners of our Treasury have recommended unto us to remit the amount of a forfeited recognizance in the sum of twenty pounds entered into by James Edwards, on account of which he is confined in the gaol for our county of Monmouth, it appearing to our said Commissioners that he is entitled to relief on account of his poverty and good character, and we being graciously pleased to condescend thereto, our will and pleasure is and we do hereby remit the amount of the said recognizance in the sum of twenty pounds and do further authorize and command you to release the said James Edwards from custody, so far as relates to his imprisonment in respect thereof. And for so doing this shall be your warrant. Given at our Court at St James's this 16th day of June 1837 in the seventh year of our reign. Size is 370mm x 235mm. Four sided. Condition is good.
