Soft cover. Condizione: New. xi, 198 pages : illustrations, maps ; 30 cm. Report on Polish excavations on Tell Rijim on the western bank of the Tigris. Middle Bronze Age layers are reported: architecture, with two houses, pottery kiln and various other structures; pottery is examined in detail with chapters on fabric, forms and decoration with a comprehensive catalogue; other small finds are described as well. The first structures date from the 18th century BC and belonged to an irregularly planned open village which, in 1600 BC underwent a decided transformation, with fortifications and a deep ravine, although the settlement itself remained small and was certainly not an administrative centre. It seems that the later settlement was a dimtu settlement, which, if true, would make Tell Rijim the oldest such settlement known from the archaeological record.…

Soft cover. Condizione: New. ix, 228 pages : illustrations ; 30 cm. The author's objective in this study was to re-assess the available textual evidence on Mesopotamian dimâtu to present a new interpretation of its meaning. This included taking into consideration all the cuneiform texts of the second millennium BC from Mesopatamia, Syria and Elam, published prior to 2001, in which the term dimtu appeared. The first part of this study considers these references, and the presence of dimtu in other regions of the Near East. The second part of the book comprises a presentation of the archaeological evidence, starting with a chapter devoted to Tell Fahar. The third part discusses the origin of dimâtu and considers the role dimâtu played in the economy and administration of Greater Mesopotamia in the second millennium BC. In addition, the work contains 9 Appendices giving, amongst other details, lists of settlements, dates of tablets, scribes, finds, and family archives.…

Originalhardcover. Condizione: Gut. 519 Seiten : Illustrationen ; 30 cm, 2090 g leicht berieben, ansonsten tadelloser Zustand / slightly rubbed otherwise perfect condition - The Upper Greater Zab Archaeological Reconnaissance (UGZAR) project carried out an archaeological survey in the Iraqi Kurdistan on an area over 3,000 km2 big, located on both banks of the Greater Zab River, to the north and north-west of Erbil. During six field seasons, conducted in 20122017, the Polish team from the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan documented there 313 archaeological sites, 110 caves and 78 other heritage monuments (churches, monasteries, mosques, castles, mills, tombs and cemeteries, etc.), as well as four rock reliefs (three in Gundk and one in Batas). During the fieldwork, nearly 20,000 artefacts dating from the Late Neolithic (Hassuna culture) to the modern period (early 20th century) were collected and documented. -- Working in an area located only 40 km south of the famous Saneder/Shanidar cave, it was natural to devote much attention to sites of this type and traces of potential prehistoric occupation which might have been preserved there. As a result, 110 caves of various size were documented during the 2015, 2016 and 2017 field seasons. The volume presents 91 of these, omitting a group of rock shelters with no sediments preserved inside. Plans, descriptions and photographs of each cave are accompanied by information on finds collected inside and on the talus below its entrance (if present). Moreover, a presence of speleothems in the caves was noted, as a potential basis for the analysis of climatic proxies. While most of the documented caves yielded traces of modern and pre-modern use, only some of the collected pottery and rock artefacts may point to their earlier occupation.
