Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Although in the African societies the term «holy» lets one think immediately of monotheistic religions, here it is related to every person who maintains a supernaturally mediating relation to the Godly sphere. Saints, as dilettantes with special v…ocation and instructions, interfere in particular fields with actual professionals. Apart of that, they intervene with general instructions and demands in the lives of all members of their community: In relation to the supernatural with the medicine man, shamans, concerning the divine with the priests and religious scholars, socially and politically with those in power, politicians and military. In any case the wonder is the regular confirmation of their charisma and instructions. The saint can act here either as a simple mediator but also as a medium in a broader sense. The contributions discuss how the biographical material is constantly revised to keep its role in creating and maintaining a historico-cultural identity. The sources to be investigated were not restricted to written ones, but also include pieces of oral tradition and fine arts. Bien que lorsque l'on évoque la notion de sainteté dans les sociétés africaines, on pense immédiatement aux religions monothéistes, il sera question ici de toute personne qui entretient des relations particulières de médiateur avec la sphère du divin. Le saint comme dilettante, avec une vocation et une mission particulière, interfère avec certains groupes sociaux et leurs représentants - en général il intervient avec une visée et une vocation globale dans la vie de tous les membres de la communauté -: dans le domaine du surnaturel, le saint interfère avec les guérisseurs, les chamans; dans le domaine du divin avec les prêtres et les religieux lettrés; dans le champ social et politique avec les dirigeants, les hommes politiques et les militaires. Son charisme et sa mission sont validés dans tous les cas par le miracle. Il peut être un simple intermédiaire ou bien aussi un médium aus sens plus large. C'est donc le rôle que le saint joue dans la construction d'une identité historico-culturelle qui sera discuté, dans la succession des matériaux biographiques continuellement retouchés. Les sources questionnées ne se limitent pas au domaine de l'écrit mais s'ouvrent également sur la tradition orale et les représentations iconographiques.

(Verlagstext) Manfred S. Kropp (* 14. Juni 1947 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein) ist ein deutscher Semitist. Von Sommersemester 1969 bis Sommersemester 1975 studierte er Semitistik, Islamwissenschaft und Mittlere und Neuere Geschichte an der Universität Heidelberg. Im Studienjahr 1970/1971 war er in Paris (Studium an der École des langues orientales vivantes, Universität Paris III und der École pratique des hautes études. Studienschwerpunkte: Modernes Arabisch und Semitische Philologie). Nach der Promotion 1975 zum Dr. phil. mit der Dissertation Die Geschichte der "reinen Araber" vom Stamme Qa?tan. Aus dem Kitab naswat at-tarab fi ta?rih gahiliyyat al-?Arab des Ibn Sa??d al-Magribi absolvierte er von 1975 bis 1977 das Bibliotheksreferendariat an der Universitätsbibliothek Tübingen und am Bibliothekarlehrinstitut der Universität Köln. Von 1977 bis 1984 war er wissenschaftlicher Assistent (ab 1980 Hochschulassistent) am Lehrstuhl für Semitistik und Islamwissenschaft am Seminar für Sprachen und Kulturen des Vorderen Orients in Heidelberg. Von Wintersemester 1977/1978 bis Sommersemester 1979 absolvierte er ein Grundstudium des Akkadischen neben der Tätigkeit als Assistent. Nach der Habilitation 1984 im Fach Semitistik mit der Habilitationsschrift Zekrä nägär. Die äthiopischen Königschroniken in der Sammlung des Generals Haylu und dem Probevortrag Arabisch-äthiopische Übersetzungstechnik am Beispiel der Zena Ayhud (Yosippon) und des Tarikä Wäldä-?Amid hielt er am 15. Mai 1985 die öffentliche Antrittsvorlesung mit dem Thema Das Osthorn Afrikas bei den arabischen Geographen. 1985 wurde er Professor für Semitistik und Islamwissenschaft an der Universität Heidelberg. Zur Vertretung der Professur Arabistik und Islamwissenschaft (Manfred Ullmann) in Tübingen war er 1987 für ein Jahr aus Heidelberg beurlaubt. Im März 1988 lehrte er als Gastprofessor am Universität Neapel L'Orientale, Facoltà di Scienze Politiche, mit Vorlesungen über Islamisches Recht, insbes. Apostasie (Ridda) in der modernen Rechtsprechung und im März 1989 hielte er Gastvorlesungen und Doktorandenseminar am Istituto Universitario Orientale di Napoli, Dipartimento di Studi e Ricerche su Africa e Paesi Arabi. 1989 wurde er wissenschaftlicher Angestellter bei der Akademie der Wissenschaften und der Literatur Mainz zur Bearbeitung des Forschungsprojekts Äthiopische Handschriften als Archive.
