Hardcover. Quarto. Hardcover. Glossy color-illustrated boards, no dust jacket. One brown one blue ribbon bookmark bound into top of spine. 365 pp. 136 works shown in color, 78 figures in color and B/W. A large and heavy volume. A scarce English edition. Published on the occasion of an exhibition held at the Hirschsprung Collection, Copenhagen, Nov. 20, 2011-Apr. 10, 2012 and at the the Skagens Museum, May 4-Sept. 2, 2012. The Hirschsprung Collection and Skagens Museum have offered a comprehensive research-based exhibition of P. S. Kroyer's works. The artist occupies an absolutely central position in both these museums, where one finds the two largest collection of his works. Kroyer is one of the most significant artists of the 19th century. His art is normally viewed in the context of the Skagen painters, and as part of the 'modern breakthrough' in Danish art. But Kroyer was a cosmopolitan, and the main aim of this exhibition is to place his art in a wider European context. In this exhibition we have gathered a selection of Kroyer's very best works, showing the great development his art underwent from the beginning of the 1870s until his death in 1909. -from the preface. VG+. Light touches of shelfwear and a few light scuff to boards. Previous owners name penned inisde, otherwise clean and unmarked.
