Offering an insight into this breed of deer and the history of the hunt, this work also features notable anecdotes and instances of Deer hunts of the past. Previous owner ink inscription to the front endpaper. Illustrated with numerous vignettes throughout and 8 full page plates by E. Caldwell. Collated complete. This 1902 edition was limited to one thousand copies, first published in 1862. In the publisher's original brown cloth, with a frontispiece, all seven other monochrome plates, and numerous in-text illustrations. Collated complete. A tale of Collyns's pursuit of the wild red deer, a fascianting tale that communicates the obsession of a hunter. This edition is particularly attractive for featuring the illustrations of animal artist Edmund Caldwell, who captures both the sensitivity and majesty of the wild red deer.
