"Companion volume to The Atlas o…f Breeding Birds in Britain and Ireland .derived from surveys of birds present in Britain and Ireland during the three winters, 1981/82, 1982/83 and 1983/84". 200 species were recorded in 10km quadrats observed an average of 16 times each. 192 species distribution maps are given with an accompanying essay for each as well as much additional analysis elsewhere, and a detailed account of the observational methods used. Solid and authoritative field work providing a datum for future fieldwork. Fieldwork and publishing were carried out under the auspices of the British Trust for Ornithology and the Irish Wildbird Conservancy. .
