Soft cover. Condizione: VG. 17pp extract, printed in double columns, illustrated with 13 characteristic Harper's etchings, including a portrait of George H. Nobbs, the pastor of Pitcairn, and 4 small chart maps, salvaged from a damaged issue of Harper's Monthly, Volume XLII, No. 251, April, 1871. Mostly extracted from the book, The Mutineers Of The Bounty And Their Descendants To Pitcairn And Norfolk Islands, by Lady Belcher, published by Harper's in 1871 in a first American edition. Belcher was a step-daugthter of Peter Heywood, a midshipman on the Bounty, who was wrongfully condemned to death, pardoned, and after rose to a high rank in the British navy. The book itself covers the years 1830 to 1870, but includes a review of the mutiny and Bligh's boat journey. Illustrations in the present item include the wreck of the Pandora, a group portrait of Maria Christian, Ellen Quintal, and Sarah McKoy, landing at Pitcairn Island, the landing place, Sidney Bay, Norfolk Island, the interior of Norfolk, portraits of Naomi and Jane Nobbs, and Pitcairn Settlement at Norfolk Island. Also includes small charts of part of the South Seas, Pitcairn Island, and Norfolk Island. Housed in protective mylar report cover.

Soft cover. Condizione: Poor. 1st Edition. Volume is poor with much staining but complete. Article by Lady Belcher about the history of Pitcairn is what make this collectible. She authored a book about Pitcairn. She is stepdaughter of Captain Peter Heywood, one of the Bounty mutineers. She was briefly married to Edward Belcher. I found the most interesting article in magazine to be "Bowery, Saturday Night." A vivid depiction of doings in New York. Please see scans of the item you will receive.

This book tells the extraordinary story of the mutiny on the Bounty, a British ship commissioned in 1787 to bring breadfruit trees from Tahiti to the West Indies. The author uses a wealth of primary sources, including the diary of James Morrison, one of the Bounty's petty officers, to meticulously recount the events that led up to the mutiny, the subsequent voyages of the ship's captain, William Bligh, and the ultimate fate of the mutineers. The book delves into the complex interplay of human nature, power dynamics, and the harsh realities of life at sea. It explores the themes of rebellion, loyalty, and the struggle for survival against the backdrop of the vast and unforgiving Pacific Ocean. The author also examines the lives of the mutineers after they settled on Pitcairn Island, and their descendants, who ultimately were forced to relocate to Norfolk Island. This book offers a fascinating and detailed look at one of the most famous mutinies in history, providing a glimpse into the lives of the individuals involved and their enduring legacy. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
