Small folio. pp. [84]. 37 illustrations of Alfred Bossom's Christmas cards and one additional illustration. Original brown cloth with the Bossom gilt crest depicting an oak tree and an irradiated eye with the motto Esto Quod Es (Be What Thou Art) on upper cover lettered gilt on spine. The author has written a letter as part of the text by way of an introduction to his Christmas cards. Clive Bossom (the author's son) has handwritten the date of 25 Dec. 1948 and addressed it to 'Dear Isabel & John.' At the end he has signed the letter and handwritten the recipients name and address: 'Lord & Lady Derby, Knowsley Park, Prescot, Lancashire.' With the Derby bookplate on upper pastedown endpaper. Sir Alfred Bossom, 1st Bt. MP later Baron Bossom (1881-1965) sent original Christmas cards every year and at the request of his friends he produced this book of them which also includes an explanatory text. Maj. Hon Sir Clive Bossom, 2nd Bt. (1918-2017) was a Conservative MP who later became involved in motorsport. Edward John Stanley, 18th Earl of Derby (1918-1994) landowner and businessman married Isabel Milles-Lade in 1948. A few white spatter marks on spine, otherwise very good. Light wear otherwise very good.
