Gebundene Ausgabe. Condizione: Neu. Neu Neuware, auf Lager - Der deutsch-amerikanische Photograph Hermann Landshoff (1905-1986) gehört zu den letzten großen Unbekannten der Photogeschichte des 20. Jahrhunderts, die noch zu entdecken sind. Landshoff, in München geboren, stammte aus einer großbürgerlichen jüdischen Familie, die im… Kunst-, Literatur- und Musikleben der Stadt eine zentrale Rolle spielte. Mit Zeichnungen für den Simplicissimus, als Photograph der Münchner Kammerspiele und mit einer Photoreportage über Albert Einstein, der mit den Landshoffs befreundet war, erlangte er schon früh einige Aufmerksamkeit. 1933 zur Emigration gezwungen, ließ er sich zunächst in Paris nieder, bevor ihm 1941 die Flucht in die USA gelang. In New York gehörte Landshoff bald zu den interessantesten und innovativsten Modephotographen, die unter dem legendären Art Director Alexej Brodovitch für Modejournale wie Harper's Bazaar, Junior Bazaar und später Mademoiselle arbeiteten. Einer seiner damaligen Kollegen war der junge Richard Avedon, der einmal sagte: 'I owe everything to Landshoff'. Wir wiederum verdanken Landshoff nicht nur aufregende Modephotographien, sondern auch beeindruckende Aufnahmen von Künstlern wie Max Ernst, Richard Lindner, André Breton und Marcel Duchamp und eine einzigartige Serie von Photographenportraits - Walker Evans, Ansel Adams, Alfred Stieglitz, Weegee bis Robert Frank und Irving Penn. Landshoffs vielschichtiges Werk, zu dem noch Architektur- und Straßenbilder von New York gehören, stellt das Münchner Stadtmuseum, dem sein Nachlass mit 3600 Abzügen aus den Jahren 1927-1970 als Schenkung überlassen wurde, ab November 2013 in einer großen Retrospektive vor. Unsere Monographie begleitet die Ausstellung, die auch international auf Tournee gehen wird.
