Elegantly bound (circa 1870s) in tan half calf, with red and black labels, full gilt back, marbled sides, drab endpapers, edges speckled red. Some spotting within chiefly to prelims and final gatherings. Bindings pleasingly aged with very little wear. A bright, fine set. An important English translation of Plutarch's parallel Lives, first published in six volumes in 1770. Provenance: Armorial bookplate of the Earl of Normanton, an Irish peer (almost certainly the 3rd Earl, James Agar, 1818-1896) a Peelite and Tory MP for Wilton, Hampshire).
