Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: Very Good. First Edition. JANE AUSTEN IN BATH Laura M. Ragg. Alexander Moring Ltd., London 1938 First edition 84pp Paperback. This First Edition copy is bound in plain green card covers as issued. There is some sunning and one or two dark marks caused by the staples used in the binding. There is a small neat signature of a subsequent owner to the rear of the front cover. Jane Austen knew Bath as a thriving spa resort, popular with fashionable society. Visit Bath today and enjoy a vibrant city with great shopping, spa, dining and plenty to see and do. Jane Austen set two of her six published novels, Northanger Abbey and Persuasion, in Bath and made the city her home from 1801 to 1806. In Northanger Abbey Jane writes; 'They arrived in Bath. Catherine was all eager delight; - her eyes were here, there, everywhere, as they approached its fine and striking environs, and afterwards drove through those streets which conducted them to the hotel. She was come to be happy, and she felt happy already'. This copy was presented by Adrian Hopkins the 710th Mayor of Bath (1938) on the occasion of his visit to The Rowfant Club on 27th April 1956. Located at 3028 Prospect Ave. Cleveland, Ohio. It is an association founded on 29 Feb. 1892, whose members are interested in "primarily the critical study of books in their various capacities to please the mind of man." Membership is by invitation. The club was named for Rowfant, the home of Frederick Locker-Lampson (1821-95), near Crawley, Sussex, England. Locker-Lampson, a writer of light verse, was a leading book collector of his time. This copy has been signed by the author on the title page with no other dedication. The presentation inscription by Hopkins is on the front cover. A rare association copy.Ref V3.
