The famous and historic Doomsday Clock - shown on each cover since 1947, two year…s after the publication's inception - here shows the time to be three minutes of midnight as of February1950. That's about as close as it ever got, and one can see from the article titles (see scan of contents) that these always-good-citizen scientists - the first group to publish against Nuclear weapons in a scholarly manner - were extremely skittish in early '50. Quarto, illustrated staple-bound wraps, 32 pp. (pages33 through 64 for the annual volume, pages then being numbered after that fashion of the time). Very Good, with modest cover fade at perimeter and light crease, early owner's small signature at top right corner. See scan. Minor rear cover soil traces. Very modest, almost unnoticeable age-toning to interior pages is less than would ordinarily be expected. See all scans. Solidly bound. A stout example. This was published during a several-year time period when the Sierra Club did not stipulate the month of an issue, just the volume, the number, and the year- monthly designations for such an… infrequent publication having always been somewhat unnecessary in any case. Original printed wrappers, 9 1/4" x 6 1/4", 102 pp. + unpaginated photographic plates, features and ads, including a plate fold-out with two panoramic wide angles, from Mount Hamilton, by William H. Wright. Very Good plus, really quite close to near fine; the major flaw being the common one that circuit binding (yapp binding) was used, in which cover edges were intentionally extended out beyond page edges, but over time the extended part becomes pressed inward somewhat (see scan). One notable rear-cover chip at top, about 1" x 1.5". Otherwise, just occasional very small points of cover wear. A very handsome copy. See scans. Binding sturdy, contents fine. In addition to the graphics mentioned above, this issue is chock full of photographic plates by the club's best photographers, as well as others. Subject matters range from art, fiction, and poetry to history and science. As such it makes a terrific read as an anthology of its moment in time. A handsome set.

Menger's method emphasized the subjective theory of value, arguing that prices arise from individuals' subjective valuations; rather than production costs. His approach rejected historical or cost-based explanations, focusing instead on how marginal utility guides human choice and market exchange. From review: "Best of this volume could be considered: Menger's groundbreaking discussion of the "organic" origin of money, law, markets, and social institutions. Menger combines Burke's critique of "the spirit of innovation" with Karl von Savigny's historical insights into the origins of customary law. Menger insists that there are many facets of common law, custom, and inherited social institutions like money and markets that advance common welfare. These ideas heavily influenced F.A. Hayek's revival of spontaneous order theorizing in the mid 20th century.
