This is an anthology of Canadian poetry compiled by Canadian poet Irving Layton (1912-2006) and published by Alan Brilliant (1936-2022), who would later go on to found Unicorn Press.  While there were a proposed four volumes, only two were published. A little soiling and wear to slipcase. Some marks to leather on book itself. Layton's "tell it like it is" style won him a wide following, but also made him enemies. Some readers will enjoy the poems in this book. Others will wish they had remained uncollected. Preface by Seymour Mayne. 199 copies, of which this is no. 152 signed by the poet.…

Assemblage of writing and poetry by some of the most known names in Canadian poetry in the late 1960's. All on various sizes of paper and varying formats, all in excellent condition. This copy lacking "Lightning", by David Studer, but as are other copies we have available. (Two other copies are available but in varying states of completeness.) This copy offered is the best we were able to assemble, and includes everything in excellent condition, including (not included with others) the original design for the Inner Space logo as it would have been sent off for printing. The second issue of this important literary and art journal with contributions by Charles Olson, Irving Layton, Kenneth Rexroth, Robert Creeley, Paul Blackburn, Toda Tomoya, Irving Layton, Douglas Woolf, Kizu Toyotaro, Lucy Lapp, and Ronald Mason. The Black Mountain Review developed out of a correspondence between Robert Creeley and Charles Orson, the rector of Black Mountain College. With these journals they aimed to generate an understanding of the emerging poets of the generation and to attract some attention to the college itself. It spanned just 7 volumes, running from 1954-1957. A few of this issue's features include Antonin Artaud, Toda Tomoya, and reproductions of Mayan Sculpture. The cover was designed by Japanese artist and poet Katue Kitasono. In Very Good condition with some age toning and foxing to the covers and bumping and wear to spine ends. Back cover has spotted wear and some markings to the lower right corner. Interior pages are unmarked with occasional minor foxing. Pages are lightly creased to the upper and lower right corners.
