An interesting letter concerning a song mentioned in Lewis Carroll's 'Through the Looking-Glass'. 6pp., 12mo. On two bifolium letterheads. In fair condition, on aged paper. He begins by statig that he has 'taken much interest in theh discussion in the Athenaeum respecting a song of Moore's "My heart & Lute" and possessing some i…nformation relative to it' is sends it to Friswell. He proceeds to give an account of publication, with references including the music publisher Power, Sir H. R. Bishop, John Kemble, Sherwood & James, 'The London Stage' and 'The National Airs'. He ends by inviting Friswell to make use of the information, and to 'see the libretto & music here', but adds that he does not wish his name 'in any way to appear in the affair'.

Eastwood Gardens was a dance hall in Detroit, Michigan, which closed in 1953. The 1942 date of the signature is presumed because Harry James performed at "Michigan Theater" on August 28, 1942.On the two inner sides of the Eastwood card is a menu of beers, soft drinks, wines and champagne served there with prices. Their special Padre Sec California champagne is pictured on the 4th side with the price of their champagne cocktail.Harry James [1916-1983] was an American musician best known as a trumpet player and band leader who led a big band from 1939 to 1983. He was especially known among musicians for his remarkable technical proficiency and superior tone on the trumpet. He was extremely influential on up-and-coming trumpet players from the late 1930s to the 1940s.

'Laddie' Lucas [Percy Belgrave Lucas, CBE, DSO & Bar, DFC (2 September 1915 - 20 March 1998), commonly known as Laddie Lucas, was a Royal Air Force officer, left-handed golfer, author and Member of Parliament]. Squadron Leader Thomas Clifford "Tony" Iveson DFC AE (11 September 1919 - 5 November 2013) was a Royal Air Force pilot and veteran of the Second World War, and one of the Few.

Contains 208 pp with two-colour aerial plans and monochrome archive photographs throughout. Fine condition book in near Fine condition dust wrapper with very slight sun…fading of the red lettering to the spine, not price clipped. Typed letter dated 22nd February 1993 from Laddie Lucas' private Onslow Square, London residence mounted in a cream envelope opposite the front free end paper SIGNED 'Sincerely, Laddie Lucas'. The recipient of this letter, Robert Pearce, has a smart bookplate 'Robert & Dulcie Pearce' to the front free end paper. SIGNED by both authors to white labels to the title page (Laddie Lucas refers to these in his letter) 'Johnnie Johnson' and 'Some great air battles to remember - but never I hope, to see again | Laddie Lucas 22. ii. 93' also SIGNED by Tony Iveson to the Tirpitz frontispiece illustration 'Tony Iveson DFC | Pilot of KC-F on Tirpitz attacks.' Dust wrapper supplied in archive acetate film protection. Housed in Fine condition marble paper covered open-fronted slip case. Member of the P.B.F.A. ROYAL AIR FORCE (RAF).
