Soft cover. Condizione: New. Jungjin Lee (illustratore). 1st Edition. Jungjin Lee s extraordinary new artist s book, Voice, comprises 46 large-scale photographs made in 2018 and 2019. While the photographs were originally made in deserts, mountains, oceans and plains, the artist writes, My images should be seen as metaphors, a form of meditation. I do not depict landscapes or nature. The desert allows me to see my inner self, and my goal is to make images of what I feel there: the eternal sense of being open and present to the world. Lee s work has expanded the boundaries of the photographic process to create images that are simultaneously textural and minimalist. After printing an image on hand-emulsified cotton or mulberry paper, she then alters its finish, using technological processes that result in a distinct, high contrast image.

Hardcover. Condizione: New. 1st Edition. Condition: New. In this body of work produced over five years in the early 1990s, Lee captures the vast American Southwest and transforms it with liquid light and diluted light-sensitive emulsions to create images that are as uncontrollable and natural as the landscape she depicts. Desert comprises four series of works (each bound as a separate book and presented in a unique slipcase), all of which contain monochromatic images of arid lands. Stratigraphy etched into rock faces, massive stones, cave-like precipices, and anthropomorphic fauna showcase an extensive compendium of the desert s many faces and textures. Each image focuses on the landscape s formal qualities, eschewing human presence, simultaneously evoking late 19th-century photography, while epitomizing the stark modernity of Lee s lens. Certain images provoke a sense of the infinite in their vastness, while others fix upon particular features, deftly transitioning from the macro to the micro.

Hard cover. Condizione: New. Please be aware the books is new and shrink wrapped, but may have some minor imperfections to the cover which is the overprinted silk screen chopped boards.\n\nTo distill a feeling\nYou must still your feelings.\nBut the mind is its own mirage,\nThe desert a looking-glass.\n\n"Making pictures in Israel and Palestine was above all an emotional challenge. My photographs usually deal with something eternal in the landscape, but in this place the layers of history and conflict, fear and hostility, frustrated my camera. I happened to travel a lot in the West Bank, not for any political purpose, but because I liked the landscape between the cities. I tried to gaze at the land, without prejudice or judgment. I didn't want to deal with the masks of the people and I didn't want to put on my own mask. I wanted to see it as the olive tree sees it. But I felt overwhelmed by the realities around me. I felt sad and uncomfortable much of the time, and I found myself trying to make photographs in a place I didn't want to be. It was difficult, but looking back, I can see that it forced me to change as an artist and I am grateful for that. On my final trip, I was able to see, not only the land, but my own mind, with its uneven terrain and movements, and to touch something elemental." ? Jungjin Lee\n\nHer black-and-white images are self-contained worlds of stillness and wonder, as Lee searches for something constant in the life of the landscape. Her images suggest that despite the semblance of fluctuation, some fundamental truths do not alter: just as the surface of the ocean is constantly in flux, its depths in fact remain unchanged and enduring. Lee, who describes her photographic state as 'meditative', regards the act of photography as emotional and experiential, a moment when 'that absolute "echo" within myself travels through time and space'.\n\nThis new, expanded edition of Unnamed Road was designed by Jungjin Lee, and published on the occasion of an exhibition at GoEun Museum of Photography in Buson, South Korea.\n\nISBN: 978-1-59005-590-8\nHardcover, \n10 x 11.5, 120 pages, \n58 quadratone plates.

Hardcover. Condizione: Fine. 1st Edition. SIGNED. First edition, first printing. Because of the fragile nature of the binding and the exterior construction, there may be some wear to the spine and corners. The front, back and the interiors are all clean, unmarked and appear as new. "For Jungjin Lee, photographing the landscape is an exploration of her own mind the introspective states of the artist, whose photographic gaze is insistent and transformative. Her latest project Unnamed Road approaches the contested territories of Israel and the West Bank by turning to the landscape. Her black-and-white images are self-contained worlds of stillness and wonder, as Lee searches for something constant in the life of the landscape. Her images suggest that despite the semblance of fluctuation, some fundamental truths do not alter: just as the surface of the ocean is constantly in flux, its depths in fact remain unchanged and enduring. Lee, who describes her photographic state as meditative , regards the act of photography as emotional and experiential, a moment when that absolute echo within myself travels through time and space . Yet she struggled to find neutrality in a charged territory that she describes as uncomfortable ; it was only in final trips to sites in 2011 that she found distance thus opening out the work to signify more that Israel and its conflict. Lee s work is often concerned with the materiality of printing technique, and for twenty years she has utilised a liquid photo-sensitive emulsion brushed on handmade rice paper, a method akin to painting. In Unnamed Road, for the first time digital processes were employed; and yet the images remain explorations of chance and imperfection, drawing the viewer into a realm where fullness of vision is the subject matter.".

Hardcover. Condizione: As New. Condizione sovraccoperta: As New. 1st Edition. Limited edition of 25 in clamshell box with a signed and numbered print from Jungjin Lee. The photographs in this book were made by Jungjin Lee in the Everglades for the Norton Museum of Art's exhibition "Imaging Eden". Bringing her unique meditative approach to this subject, Lee captured a sense of stillness in the constantly moving landscape one inhabited by endangered species like the manatee, the American crocodile, and the elusive Florida panther. Her photography is imbued with elemental vastness and wonder. Using a multilayered process that integrates elements of painting, Lee's photographs exude a materiality not often found in photography. The Florida Everglades is one of the most extensive and complex wetlands on our planet. It has been declared an International Biosphere Reserve, a World Heritage Site, and a Wetland of International Importance. It is the third-largest national park in the lower 48 states. Beautifully printed on lush uncoated Japanese paper, Everglades is limited to 2,000 copies presented in a green cloth slipcase; both book and slipcase were designed by the artist herself. Jungjin Lee's photography is imbued with elemental vastness and wonder. A former assistant of Robert Frank, she creates large scale landscapes employing a unique interplay between image and material. Jungjin Lee was born in South Korea in 1961. Her photographs have been widely published and exhibited internationally, and are housed in many important collections, including those of the Metropolitan Museum of Art; Whitney Museum of American Art; FNAC, Paris; the LA Museum of Art; and Houston Museum of Fine Art. Signed by Author(s).

Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. Cover has slight curling to the tips, a red dot taped to the front cover, and a price tag on the back. There is a small reference library stamp on the title page but no other marks inside or out. Important work and scarce. I'm listing it for a much lower price than usual because of these minor condition issues. Photos available on request.

Condizione: Wie neu. Nazraeli Press. 2016. First edition, first printing. Signed by Lee Jungjin! New, mint, unread. Still originally shrink-wrapped in publisher`s plastic foil; only opened once for signature. Clothbound, slipcased. 190 x 380 mm. 52 pages, 25 duotone plates. Text in English. Perfect condition! Signed by the artist! Collector`s copy! "The photographs in this book were made by Jungjin Lee in the Everglades for the Norton Museum of Art`s exhibition `Imaging Eden`. Bringing her unique meditative approach to this subject, Lee captured a sense of stillness in the constantly moving landscape - one inhabited by endangered species like the manatee, the American crocodile, and the elusive Florida panther. Her photography is imbued with elemental vastness and wonder. Using a multilayered process that integrates elements of painting, Lee`s photographs exude a materiality not often found in photography. Jungjin Lee`s photography is imbued with elemental vastness and wonder. A former assistant of Robert Frank, she creates large scale landscapes employing a unique interplay between image and material. Jungjin Lee was born in South Korea in 1961. Her photographs have been widely published and exhibited internationally, and are housed in many important collections, including those of the Metropolitan Museum of Art; Whitney Museum of American Art; FNAC, Paris; the LA Museum of Art; and Houston Museum of Fine Art."***************Nazraeli Press. 2016. Condizione: Wie neu. Nazraeli Press. 2017. First edition, first printing. Signed by Lee Jungjin! New, mint, unread. Still originally shrink-wrapped in publisher`s plastic foil; only opened once for signature. Accordion-bound with cloth covers, slipcased. 19 x 38 (7.5 x 15 inches). 56 pages. 28 duotone plates. Text in english. Perfect condition! Signed by the artist! Collector`s copy! "Following up on her widely-acclaimed book Everglades, published by Nazraeli Press in 2016, Jungjin Lee has created a true artist`s book with this series of desert and mountain landscapes entitled Opening. Made in some of her favorite places in Arizona, New Mexico and Canada, these images inspire a sense of the deep and quiet interaction between the beholder and the landscape, and the physical presence of earth, stone, tree and sky. Limited to 2,000 slipcased copies, Opening features an accordion binding which creates two back-to-back panoramas each measuring some 11 feet long when fully spread out. Born in Korea, Jungjin Lee began photographing in the early 1980s while a ceramics major at Hongik University in Seoul. Known for her laborious and handcrafted photographic work printed on handmade mulberry paper, she creates cross-cultural photographic landscapes which combine techniques and materials of Eastern and Western traditions of both painting and photography. Jungjin Lee`s photographs have been widely published and exhibited internationally, and are housed in many important collections, including those of the Metropolitan Museum of Art; Whitney Museum of American Art; FNAC, Paris; the LA Museum of Art; and Houston Museum of Fine Art. "Jungjin Lee creates images that are poetic, disturbing, and bewitching and which incite our introspection. They are an `echo` of her inner being. Like the photographer Robert Frank, for whom she had been an assistant, Lee is thoroughly convinced that an image acts like a poem that we wish to read again and again." (Thomas Seelig, Director, Fotomuseum Winterthur).***************Nazraeli Press. 2017. Erstausgabe. Originalausgabe. Signiert von Lee Jungjin! Neu, ungelesen, verlagsfrisch.
