This compelling art book introduces the work of Norwegian artist Anne-Karin Furunes, whose internationally recognized practice transforms simple monochrome surfaces into striking, image-like compositions. Working with a distinctive perforation technique, she builds delicate rasters of tiny holes that gradually reveal portraits and landscapes with a photographic, almost ethereal presence. The result is a subtle interplay of light, shadow, and texture that changes as you look closer. Published in collaboration with Galerie Anhava and Trondheim Kunstmuseum, the book brings together a focused selection of her work, offering an intimate view into a unique artistic method that sits between painting, drawing, and photography. Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: As New. 1st Edition. This richly illustrated volume provides fresh perspectives on the work of one of Finland's and the Nordic region's most significant sculptors from the 1990s to the 2010s. The cult-renowned artist Markus Copper (1968-2019) created sculptures that incorporate sound and movement, often addressing subjects linked to recent historical tragedies, such as the sinking of the passenger ship Estonia. He is particularly known for large, site-dominating works that employ sound, mechanical motion, or light. Many of his pieces explore human behavior, morality, and psychological landscapes. PhD and museum director Leevi Haapala examines the dynamics of opposing forces in Copper's works, focusing especially on the layered meanings of Khyber Pass (2014). Art historian Saara Karhunen analyzes the performative aspects of Copper's sculptures and the viewer's role, drawing on his early-1990s performance art. Copper spent 15 years working in Sweden and Denmark, a period and artistic mindset explored in an article by Swedish art historian and critic Carolina Söderholm. Copper's own voice is presented in a re-published 2006 interview by FM Päivi Nikkilä, reflecting on his time in Berlin. Richly illustrated, the book showcases not only Copper's sculptures but also captivating drawings, including his final extensive series "Huviretki tienpientareelle". The published documentary material provides insight into his working process, sculptural production, and activities as a performance artist. Related to the exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma, Helsinki, Finland, 11 November 2022 - 26 February 2023. Text in Finnish and English. 145 pp.

Today, the heart of their collection consists of masterpieces from Finland's Golden Age of Art, as well as esteemed works of old European painting dating back to the 1500s. The Gösta Serlachius Art Foundation began its contemporary art collection in the early 2010s and has since grown it thoughtfully and selectively, acquiring works both from Finland and around the world. Six Glimpses into a Collection presents contemporary art acquisitions from 2010 to 2022, featuring artists such as Eija-Liisa Ahtila, Riiko Sakkinen, Ville Lenkkeri, Marita Liulia, and Elina Brotherus. Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: As New. 1st Edition. Touko Laaksonen (1920-1991), aka Tom of Finland, is Finland's most internationally acclaimed artist. He created a gallery of male types that retain fresh relevance from generation to generation as part of a timeless cultural iconography. Not only are his homoerotic fantasy drawings celebrated as enduring icons of gay subcultures and communities, but today they are also recognized by a growing audience of art lovers. His highly aestheticized, technically immaculate drawings have exerted a worldwide influence in fashion, design and culture trends. "One man's porn has become everyone's art," comments Kiasma Museum Director Leevi Haapala in his essay, which follows the career of the Kaarina-born, Helsinki-based advertising executive and musician who went on to achieve worldwide artistic fame. Haapala's essay is accompanied by a biography compiled by researcher Kati Mustola and an essay by curator João Laia, who uses the trope of cruising to discuss the sense of community, joy and pride engendered by Tom's characters. Researcher Harri Kalha sheds light on how Tom's originally hyper-Finnish masculine types embarked on their world conquest, leading them all the way to Los Angeles, where Tom's namesake foundation is based today. Curator Alvin Li's essay in turn examines the radicalism, hypermasculinity and fetishism of Tom's drawings. The richly illustrated book presents Tom of Finland's art from the 1950s until the end of his career, and it coincides with an extensive exhibition hosted by the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma. Among the featured articles is a comprehensive biographical interview published in Prätkäposti (Biker Mail) magazine in 1990 to mark the occasion of the artist's 70th birthday. In this interview, the artist speaks in his own voice, sharing insights into the thematic background of his homoerotic imagery. The interview also holds documentary value in charting the internationalization of gay culture and the evolving status of gender minorities in Finland's then-reigning cultural hegemony.
