H. Stuckenschmidt ist dieses Buch entstanden. Zwei Begegungen wurden für die Sängerin schicksalhaft: die mit der Musik und der Person Arnold Schönbergs und die mit H. H. Stuckenschmidt. Die "liaison dangéreuse" zwischen Sängerin und Kritiker wurde für beide zum Glücksfall. Künstlerischer Erfolg über Deutschland und Europa hinaus, gemeinsame Erlebnisse, Freuden und Nöte, Jahre des halben Exils in Prag, Erfahrungen mit neuen Kulturen und Menschen, endlich die Heimkehr in ein verwandeltes Deutschland bilden den farbigen Hintergrund des gemeinsamen Lebensweges. Neben der entscheidenden Begegnung mit Schönberg wurde dieser Weg auch geprägt durch Freundschaften mit dem Komponisten Alban Berg, den Musikern Hermann Abendroth, Eduard Steuermann und Rudolf Kolisch, den großen Schauspielern Edith Heerdegen, Erich Ponto und O.
