Sédillot, médecin militaire français (1804/1883), fit ses études à la Faculté de médecine de Paris puis au Val-de-Grâce. Après un passage à Metz, il revient au Val-de-Grâce où il soutient sa thèse. En 1830, il est le chirurgien des insurgés polonais. En 1835, il est agrégé de la faculté de médecine de Paris. Il part comme volontaire en 1837 avec la deuxième expédition de Constantine, où l'organisation du service de santé se révèle défaillante, en particulier face aux épidémies de choléra, de dysenterie ou de fièvres palustres. Atteint de fortes crises de paludisme, il est rapatrié en 1841. Il exerce alors comme professeur de pathologie externe et de clinique chirurgicale à la faculté de médecine de Strasbourg.
