Leather. Condizione: Very Good Indeed. First edition. Attractively bound in half calf, this is the very scarce first edition in book form of Rev. W. A. Leighton's collection of early modern chronicles of Shrewsbury. The vanishingly scarce first edition in book form of this work, reprinted from the Transactions of the Shropshire Archaeological and Natural History Society. Transcribed and annotated by William Allport Leighton, is an edited collection of medieval and early modern chronicles relating to the town of Shrewsbury. With the bookplate of Stanley Leighton to the front pastedown. He may be a relative of the author of this work. With the bookplate of John H. O. Thornhill to the verso of the front free endpaper. Loosely inserted are six handwritten letters from various residents of Shropshire, dated between 1778 to 1847, and including receipts and purchase orders for everyday essantials. The work transcribes and annotates manuscript records spanning more than two centuries, preserving accounts of local civic affairs, notable events, prices, weather, royal visits, and other aspects of Shrewsbury's municipal history.
