Octavo. Profusely illustrated with in-text vignettes and full-page plates, a hallmark of the magazine's high visual quality. Condition: Exterior: Original red cloth boards show light shelf wear to edges and corners, with a single dark mark to the front board (visible in photographs); spine lettering remains legible; shelf wear to spine, boards, and corners bumped. Interior: Very Good, with clean, bright pages; no writing or markings except one blank page with stain on lower edge. Notable Contents: This bound six-month volume of The Cornhill Magazine (Vol. XIV, January-June 1872) includes several major Victorian serial works and essays. Featured fiction includes later installments of Charles James Lever's final novel Lord Kilgobbin; early chapters of Anne Thackeray Ritchie's Old Kensington, one of her most important novels; Edmond About's political serial The Story of the Plebiscite, reflecting contemporary European affairs; and Annie Hector (Mrs. Alexander)'s Pearl and Emerald.
