Am bekanntesten sind seine vielfigurigen, teils mehrräumigen Installationen: Sie faszinieren durch ihre fremdartigen Gestalten und sich unvermutet öffnende Räume. In der verhältnismäßig kurzen Zeit zwischen seiner ersten Einzelausstellung in Madrid 1984 und seinem plötzlichen Tod 2001 hat Juan Muñoz ein ausgesprochen vielschichtiges OEuvre geschaffen.
