Presumed first edition. 224pp., a colour frontispiece and many black and white illustrations in the text. Set in the Elizabethan Age, this is a tale of a young man's courage and his struggle to wrest his brother from the clutches of the dreaded Inquisition. The book is bound in the original red boards with black titling on the spine and the front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with bumping to the spine ends and slight cocking to the spine. The contents are tight and clean with foxing to the free endpapers, the half-title page and last page of the book. There is also foxing on the top edge of the text block and on some pages this has seeped a little way into the top margin. There is no inscription. The unclipped dustwrapper has shelf wear with some light soiling and the spine is slightly faded. The spine ends are bumped with some nicks at the top of the spine.
