This book also includes a biographical sketch of Bartlett and transcriptions of his early correspondence from 1903-1923. The Appendix includes "Friends of early years," "Final public address," and "'Labors of Datoe' evaluated." As a botanist, Bartlett traveled to many places around the world to collect plant specimens. He traveled to Sumatra, Haiti, the Philippines, South America, and Taiwan. In Sumatra, Bartlett became fascinated by the language and culture of the Batak of Asashan and eventually became an adopted chief of the tribe.…
