Aggiungi al carrellopaperback. Condizione: Good. Our good condition books are generally good for reading but not for gifting or collecting. They could have imperfections such as creasing, fanning, inscriptions, margin notes, yellowing, staining on edge or cover or pages, bumps, scuffs, etc etc (sometimes multiple of these). It's a wide category that encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.

Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. 1st Edition. 173 pp quarter purple cloth gilt title, cream paper to sides. Review copy with Michael Joseph label in front and letter from publisher's to reviewer laid in. Book clean and sound, dust wrapper clean and complete but sunned on spine.
Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Fair. 1st Edition. First American Edition (Number Line to 1). This book was previously owned by the renowned sociologist Daniel Bell. He signed his name on the blank front end paper, and underneath wrote '1985'. You can see the covers of the book in the photos. They are very clean. The silver lettering on the spine is nicely bright. There is just a little bit of crinkling at the spine ends. The cover edges are in excellent shape, no rubbing. Same goes for the cover corners. The page edges look good. The book is very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. There is a slight bit of spotting or foxing on the blank front and rear end papers, none anywhere else in the book. The pages are exceptionally clean. Scrolling through, I'm not finding any instances of soiling. I'm not finding any conspicuous creasing, no turned-down corners, no placeholder creases. There are no markings. No attachments of any kind. And Dr. Bell's signature represents the only writing to be found anywhere in the book. The dust jacket is a mixed bag. There's only light soiling. There are no edge tears. However, as you can see, there is a loss on the front cover and there is a piece of tape on the rear cover (oddly, because there is no tear there). The flaps are clean. There are no tears on them. There is a little crinkling around the front flap's top edge. The jacket is NOT priced-clipped, not clipped at all. I've always had it in a fitted protective cover. From the front flap of the dust jacket the Song of the Partisan is quoted: 'We are the sons of David, the hardheaded sons of Masada. Each of us carries in his pocket the stone that shattered the forehead of Goliath. Brothers, away from this Europe of graves: Let us climb together towards the land where we will be men among men. If I'm not for myself, who will be for me? If not this way, how? If not now, when?' 'An often fierce and exciting story', 'it speeds along with an accumulating energy, even suspense' writes Irving Howe in his introduction to this gripping novel about Jews who fought back during the Holocaust. Based on a true story, If Not Now, When? chronicles the adventures, crises, and inner transformations of a band of Jewish partisans-- refugees from Nazi terror-- as they battle the retreating German army in the closing days of World War II.'.

Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Near Fine. Jacket by Mark Oldroyd (illustratore). 1st Edition. First UK edition, first impression. Some slight edge wear to top and bottom of jacket and spine, lettering on spine very slightly faded, corners slightly bruised, some slight yellowing to page block, not price clipped (£9.95), no inscriptions, some contemporary newspaper reviews tipped in, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg+ copy for its age. 174pp. 'The Wrench', Levi's second novel, published in the Uk in the year of his death, traces the fortunes of a group of Jewish partisans behind German lines during World War II as they seek to survive and continue their fight against the occupier. With the ultimate goal of reaching Palestine to take part in the development of a Jewish national home, the partisan band reaches Poland and then German territory. There the surviving members are officially received as displaced persons in territory held by the Western allies. Finally, they succeed in reaching Italy, on their way to Palestine. The novel won both the Premio Campiello and the Premio Viareggio. Primo Michele Levi (1919-87), was an Italian Jewish chemist, partisan, Holocaust survivor and writer. Levi died in 1987 from injuries sustained in a fall from a third story apartment landing. His death was officially ruled a suicide, but some have suggested that the fall was accidental. Quite a scarce book.
