Ce tome 37 du Journal de Médecine renferme la première édition de cet important mémoire de Levret, sous… forme de six articles (pp. 46-62, 143-167, 233-249, 347-366, 410-440, 512-533) : Sur l'alaitement des enfans, dans lesquelles on indique plusieurs précautions, également intéressantes pour la mère & pour l'enfant, soit avant, soit pendant, soit après l'alaitement . Précautions au moyen desquelles on évitera un grand nombre d'inconvéniens auxquels on s'expose, si on les néglige. De nouvelles observations sur l'alaitement des enfans . Sur les soins qu'exigent les enfans qui viennent de naître, tant pour remédier aux différens vices de conformation, que pour prévenir plusieurs accidens auxquels ils sont exposés . Ces articles seront rassemblés et publiés sous forme de livre en 1781. Ce mémoire, qui renferme des préceptes souvent excellents, parfois curieux, fut très bien accueilli. Levret étudie les obstacles à l'allaitement provenant de la mère et ceux liés à l'enfant. Si le nouveau-né à des difficultés à têter, Levret préconise la succion par « des chiens nouveaux-nés, lesquels réussissent ordinairement assez bien à faire peu-à-peu ce que l'enfant n'a pu faire tout de suite » ; il précise les précautions à prendre. Le volume proposé, comportant les six parutions du tome 37 (1er semestre 1772), renferme par ailleurs des observations variés concernant la médecine, l'obstétrique ou la chirurgie. André Levret (1703-1780) fut le plus grand obstétricien français de son époque. Il a été considéré par De Siebold comme le « fondateur de la médecine opératoire obstétricale». Deuxième édition. André Levret (1703-178…0), élève de J.L. Petit, est considéré comme le plus grand obstétricien français de cette période. Il est, d'après von Siebold, le « fondateur de la médecine opératoire obstétricale rationnelle ». Dans cet ouvrage, il décrit d'abord les techniques utilisées pour l'ablation des polypes gynécologiques, en s'appuyant sur 25 observations. La seconde partie de l'ouvrage est consacrée aux "polypes du nez, de la gorge, &c.". Levret passe en revue les différentes méthodes de traitement utilisées (cautérisation, incision, arrachement et ligature), et rapporte 17 observations (11 personnelles et 6 de Manne). Cet ouvrage est orné de six belles planches, illustrant les instruments antérieurement employés (par Ambroise Paré, Fabrice de Hilden, Le Cat, …) et ceux, ingénieux, inventés par l'auteur, au premier rang desquels se trouve son « speculum oris » qui en fait un pionnier de la laryngoscopie. Il Levret (Parigi, 1703-ivi, 1780), membro dell'Académie Royale de Chirurgie, fu uno dei più illustri ostetrici di tutti i tempi per i suoi studi sulla gravidanza extrauterina. André Levret est certainement le plus célèbre obstétricien du XVIIIe, il en a amélioré les techniques et fut fait accoucheur à la cour. Cette importante publication porte sur les polypes, tumeurs molles affectant les muqueuses, les premiers chapitres s'occupant exclusivement de l'appareil génital féminin, l'anus et le colon, les suivants du nez et de la gorge. Elle fait état des observations du praticien et de ses interventions. André Levret is certainly the most famous obstetrician of the 18th century, he improved its techniques and was appointed accoucheur to the court. This important publication deals with polyps, soft tumors affecting the mucous membranes, the first chapters dealing exclusively with the female genital apparatus, the anus and colon, the following ones with the nose and throat. It presents the practitioner's observations and interventions.
