Not a remainder or library book. The dark blue cloth boards are in good condition (bumped spine top and bottom, slight edge wear on bottom). The dust jacket is in fair condition (chipping along edges, faded spine, age-toning and discoloration). 8 x 5 ½, 306 pages, 17 ounces XX Written directly to the average citizen — the "sleeping giant' —who by his voice controls the functioning and the future of American democracy, It's All Politics presents a provocative and trenchant analysis of the workings of American politics today. It is a challenge to every citizen to wake up and think—to become politically aware of the importance of his franchise and to understand the motives and methods of those self-seeking interests scheming constantly to rob him of the sacred right to a voice in his government. Mr. Abrahams shows that an alarming percentage of citizens remain political babes-in-the-wood, at the mercy of unscrupulous bosses who are both past masters and makers of political science. Examples from our not-too-distant political history show how dishonest bosses and their henchmen have consistently cheated and stolen from the people their voting rights, the safeguards of their liberty. Mr. Abrahams cites from our own political record the flagrancy with which crooked politicians constantly serve big business in attaining illegal ends. He shows the powerful influence politicians wield on behalf of those seeking legislation or other favors on their behalf. Scores of special interest groups spend millions of dollars through highly paid lobbyists to obtain special privileges, yet conspicuous by its absence is any militant group to speak out for the taxpayer, for the good of the country as a whole. Chapters on the power of money in our elective system, on the power and influence of money in electing judges to the bench, and twelve biographical sketches of notorious political bosses are included. For each boss who rose from poverty to tremendous wealth and influence, as all did, the American public—the politically uninformed voter—paid. Long interested in the realistic functioning of the American political party system, LEWIS ABRAHAMS, New York lawyer, several years ago began specializing in election laws. Finding confusion even among lawyers and judges as to the laws regulating crimes committed against the elective franchise—crimes directly affecting, often negating, votes of thousands of citizens—Mr. Abrahams wrote a number of articles for law journals and three books upon the subject. Reid at the piano and the performers the famous American Ragtime Octette Wolfe Gilbert (1886-1970) & Lewis Muir (1884-1950) wrote several great songs including Ramona, Ragtime Cowboy Joe and together, Take me to That Swanee Shore, Waiting for the Robert E. Lee and Hitchy Koo. Muir brought the Octet to London and they were a jazz sensation.
