The extract ('Sexto') concerns the payment of an 'Annuity of Eleven hundred pounds Sterling bequeathe…d to he said Mrs. Catherine Robertson by the said Lieut. General Archibald Robertson'. Robertson is the subject of a portrait by George Romney, now in the Museum of Fine Art, St Petersburg, Florida.

Docketted on reverse: 'Copy | Account | Due by the Trustee of Lieut: J. Boyd to Doctor Steavenson | 1813 | Compd. J.W.' and 'Genl. Robertsons Trustees…Order | by you for Remitting £64. 12. 5 to Dr Stevenson [sic] on acct. of Lieut. Jas Boyd | Remitted 7 Aug 1813'. The upper part of the document lists a number of disbursements, the first being: '1813 | February 26 | To Clayton and Fishers Bill for a suit of mourning - Flannel waistcoats &c [£8 18s 6 1/2d]'. On 18 March comes 'To Mr Pollock's account for 1/2 Dozen fine shirts for Mr Boyd [£4 16s 1 1/2d]'. And on 2 July: 'To Servants account of expenditure for Tobacco - Shaving &c from Decemr 25 1812 [£3 17s 3d]'. The lower part carries a short 'Copy Letter by Dr Stevenson to John Dundas Esquire Clerk to the Signet dated Northumb. Street 2d August 1813'. The letter reads: 'Above you have the statement of Mr Boyds account I have not received his order for his half pay as usual to cover part of his Expenses if he gives it to me it may be deducted from the above amount Mr Boyd is now well stocked with clothes'. At the foot of the page are the signatures of 'David Williamson' (to a short dated note), 'Dundas' and 'James Bruce'.

The three items in good condition, on lightly-aged paper. The accounts are both 1p., foolscap 8vo., and written in a sprawling uneducated hand. The first account is headed 'Genl Robertson to Duncan Robertson', and deals with the period from December 1808 to April 1809. Totalling £6 18s 2d, it includes 'two box Dubessons opiate',… 'two bottles oil of rose', 'Two Crop wigs', 'Blacking', 'Riggs magnetic Tablet', 'a lib of old windsor soap', 'pott pomatum'. The second account is headed 'Mrs Genl Robertson to Duncan Robertson'. Totalling £8 13s 0d, it includes: 'a box Dubissons opiate', '3 pr fine Gloves', 'necklace & Snaps', 'Black broch', '4 Square Berry Soap', 'a fine Shell Dressing Comb'. The receipt is on a slip of 8 x 21 cm paper, with two embossed twopenny tax stamps. It reads: 'Edinh 12 Jany 1810 Received by the Hands of Mr Dundas W S for account Rendered to Genl & Mrs Robertson of Lawers fifteen pounds Eleven Shillings Sterling being i full of all Demands to this date | Duncan Robertson'. Docketted on reverse: 'Genl. Robertson | Receipt by Duncan Robertson Wigmaker for £15 . 11/ paid 12 Jany 1810'.

The document begins: 'Know all Men by these presents, That I Lieutenant General Archibald Robertson of Lawers, Considering that by a Trust Ded execute by me o…f my heritable and moveable Estate and effects generally and particularly therein described bearing date the twenty ninth day of November One thousand Seven hundred and Ninety nine years to and in favours of William Robertson Esq Advocate, James Bruce Esq. of the Excise Edinburgh, John Dundas Esq. Writer to the Signet Edinburgh and Robert Dundas Esq. his Son, and such other person or persons as I shall appoint by a writing under my hand at any time of my life or even on deathbed and to the Survivers [sic] or Surviver of them or the Accepters or Accepter of them and to each other persons or person as my Trustees shall think fit to assume in the event therein mentioned'. The document describes various legacies for relatives and friends. The accounts are in the top quarter of the reverse of the last leaf of the Dispositon, and are headed 'Legacy duty paid | No. 5 fol. 66', consisting of around twenty entries, from 'Miss C: Austen £3067. 10' to 'J Donald £10 Age 31 | value £146 7 9'. Not signed by him.
