This book presents a detailed and engaging examination of the history and development of antiseptic surgery, focusing on the groundbreaking contributions of the esteemed surgeon, Joseph Lister, whose pioneering work revolutionized surgical practices and significantly reduced mortality rates. The author meticulously traces Lister's journey, from his early fascination with the causes of sepsis to his groundbreaking experiments with antiseptics, that ultimately led to the development of his groundbreaking antiseptic techniques. The author delves into the scientific and medical context of the 19th century, highlighting the prevailing theories and misconceptions regarding infection and wound healing, and how Lister's innovative ideas challenged established norms. The book explores the challenges and controversies surrounding Lister's methods, as well as their gradual acceptance and widespread adoption within the medical community.
