Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the geology of Kentucky's western coal field, focusing on Grayson, Edmonson, Hart, and Butler counties. The author meticulously details the region's surface features and topography, which vary greatly due to the alternating layers of sedimentary rocks. The book then dives into the geological formations found within the area, beginning with the St. Louis limestone and progressing through the Chester Group, which has been identified in this region for the first time by the author. The study also examines the coal measures and the two prominent sandstones, the conglomerate and Bee Spring sandstone, which have significantly shaped the region's geological composition. The author's detailed descriptions and cross-sections provide valuable insights into the geological history and evolution of this area, making this book an essential resource for geologists and anyone interested in the geological wonders of Kentucky. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Condizione: Very Good. Original stapled card wrap covers [softback]. 8vo. 8½'' x 5½''. Magazine of the year with monochrome illustrations and photographs throughout, advertisements to the end papers. Marks to the covers and in Very Good condition. At the request of the Diocese of Lancaster, the Order of Saint Augustine founded Austin Friars School, a day and boarding grammar school, to provide a Catholic education for boys in Cumbria and the city of Carlisle. The property was originally used by the Sisters of the Sacred Heart who had founded a school there before leaving for Newcastle upon Tyne in 1903 (and subsequently establishing Sacred Heart Catholic High School) and the Poor Sisters of Nazareth who ran an orphanage. It was then acquired by the Augustinians in 1951 and has been occupied by the school ever since. Girls were admitted in 1986. Boarding ceased in 1998 due to declining interest. We currently hold in stock 18 other books printed by the School. Member of the P.B.F.A. EDUCATION (Teaching).

Signed quite legibly by the author in thin back felt-tipped pen on the title page beneath his printed name; below his signature, he has added the date ("June 11, 2026") and the location ("St. Louis"), all done in my presence on June 11, 2026 at the Clark Family branch of the Saint Louis County (MO) Library. The presentation, moderated by the head of the Missouri History Museum's Soldiers Memorial, was very informative and engaging and often emotional. Mr. Haygood made a point several times that these 'ordinary' people that he wrote about were heroes and should not be forgotten nor erased from history. After about 45 minutes of their conversation and repartee, the event was opened to questions from the audience—and he got several, which he gracefully and graciously answered. It was a very informative and enlightening presentation. There were about 70 attentive readers in attendance to enjoy and learn from this very humane and gracious gentleman. I have a flyer from this very enlightening event. Signed by Author(s).
