Hardcover. Condizione: Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Good. This is a 1929 printing of the first Uniform Edition of 1899 with illustrations by J. Lockwood Kipling, the author's father and W.H.Drake, American painter and illustrator. The book is bound in the publisher's original red buckram with Kipling Ganesha medallion embossed in bright gilt on the front cover and title and author in gilt on the spine. The medallion still carries a small swatzika, Sanskrit symbol for wellbeing. This would be abandoned in Kipling's books with the rise of Nazism. Front cover is very slightly bowed. Spine leans slightly. Top edges gilt. Very light wear on the corners and spine caps. Name of previous owner on the first free endpaper. The back hinge is starting to crack at the page before the last free endpaper but the text block is sound. There are some light smudges infrequently in the margins throughout the book, but the text and illustrations are generally clean and unmarked. The dust jacket is in good condition with .25" closed tear on the bottom edge of the back panel and chips on the ends of the spine panel and corners. The original price is on the spine panel. Illustrations throughout in black and white. Rudyard Kipling was winner of the 1907 Nobel Prize in Literature. Please see all images.
