Christian Ludwig Mursinna (1744-1823), preußischer Generalchirurgus und Professor der Chirurgie zu Berlin, gehört zu denjenigen bedeutenden Chirurgen, die, aus der Barbierstube hervorgegangen, sich zu einer angesehenen Stellung in der Wissenschaft emporgeschwungen haben. 1799 wurde ihm von der Wiener Josephsakademie der zweite Preis, in einer goldenen Medaille bestehend, für seine "Abhandlung über die Durchbohrung des Schädels", zuerkannt und er zugleich zum Mitgliede der Akademie ernannt. cf. Es ist unstreitig ein sehr preiswürdiger Gegenstand, welchen die Josephinische Akademie hier zu ihrer Aufgabe gewählt hat, weil er von äußerster Wichtigkeit, noch sehr streitig ist, und der unselige Krieg gerade wieder eine Menge zur Prüfung derselben dienender Fälle geliefert hat. Besonders ist die erste Beantwortungsschrift, welcher die Akademie auch den ersten Preis zuerkennt, des Preises würdig. Bekanntlich haben Richter, Schmucker und Desault den Gebrauch des Trepans sehr eingeschränkt, und seit Kurzem schien es sogar Mode zu werden, mit Bekanntmachung solcher Kopfverletzungen, die ohne Trepanation geheilt wurden, oder vielmehr heilten, den Heilkräften der Natur seine Ehrerbietung bezeigen zu wollen. Schon Quesnay sagte sehr richtig, daß dergleichen Beobachtungen einen sehr seichten Nutzen haben, weil sie durch ungleich zahlreichere und wichtigere Beobachtungen widerlegt werden, nur Kinder des Zufalls find , die ganz von der Regel abweichen, so außer der Ordnung und zu schwer zu bestimmen find, daß man sie nicht einmal als Ausnahmen betrachten kann. Diese Preisschriften sind jenen Grundätzen nun so entgegengesetzt, daß sie in diesem Kapitel der Chirurgie eine neue Epoche machen. Herr Louvrier hat feine Beantwortung philosophisch geordnet, als, wie der erste Blick zeigt, die Aufgabe selbst gestellt war.
