Aggiungi al carrelloFirst edition, signed by the artist, the author and the dedicatee: L. S. Lowry, Mervyn Levy and Leo Solomon. A friend of Lowry's, Solomon worked as a sculptor, a painter, and the principal of Rochdale College of art. He also created a bust of Lowry in bronze, which was displayed at the Royal Academy in 1967. Levy was another great friend of Lowry's, as well as an art critic and a teacher. A year after this book was published, he produced another work, The Drawings of L.S. Lowry: Public and Private, which further explored the artist's oeuvre. Lowry is well known for painting the urban industrial districts of north-west England, often peopled with stylized figures known as "the matchstick men". This book features many such scenes, as well as characteristically sombre portraits, still-lifes, and rural scenes. It is rare for any book to be signed by not one, not two, but three people who were instrumental in it's creation. Quarto. Black and white and colour illustrations throughout. Original blue boards, spine lettered in gilt. With dust jacket. A few negligible bumps; jacket unclipped, spine slightly faded, edges a little creased: a near-fine copy in a very good jacket.
