Condizione: Gut. 24 S.; Illustr. (Fotografie); 30 cm; kart. Gutes Ex. - Englisch; chinesisch. - Texte v. Hermann Koelle; Michael Roßnagl; Karen Smith; Ingo Hartmann. - Thomas Struth (* 1954 in Geldern, Niederrhein) ist ein deutscher Fotograf der Düsseldorfer Photoschule. . . (wiki) // TWO artists embark on a dialog, each one having lived in a different country on another continent, moided by a distinct culture and social system, the result of which is this joint exhibition. The aim of the exhibition is to provide exceptional insight into contemporary artistic creation and, at the same time, promote perceptiveness by confronting the viewer with a "different world". This kind of cooperation is not unusual in the world of art. What is new is the opportunity for individuals to exchange their experiences within the framework of intercultural relations between China and Germany. Luo Yongjin and Thomas Struth, the first two participants in the "Face to Face" exhibition series, happen to be exceptional photographers of their generation. These two artists, who had never met personally before this project began, have arranged 50 works into a joint presentation the central theme of which is the photographic representation of the human being. The objective of their very realistic yet different styles is not so much to create hyperrealistic photography. On the contrary, their work has been composed so that the clarity with which man's daily life is formulated as an image covers levels of experience, which transcends for the observer the purely documentary nature of the observation While Luo Yongjin works within the tradition of journalistic photography, Thomas Struth uses stylistic techniques of documentary photography. Luo Yongjin responds photographically to given situations, his shots are taken at the "right moment" and present to the beholder the characteristic elements in work steeped in atmosphere. Thomas Struth, on the other hand, creates analytical photographs which demonstrate a foundation of strict artistic conception, thus lending themselves to contemplative musing. Above all, the fascination inherent in combining these two photographers lies in their two different artistic approaches to the social questions of our time.
