It is permeatted with a deep love for the English country, and is full of warm humour and penetrating but kindly observation of human character." The book is bound in the original orange-brown cloth covered boards with dark-blue titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with light bumping to the spine ends. The contents are tight and clean with an inscription dated 1938 on the front free endpaper. The unclipped dustwrapper has shelf wear with some soiling and the spine is browned. The corners and bottom of the spine are bumped and the top of the spine is more heavily bumped with nicks and tears of up to about 1/4". The top of the spine, bottom front corner and rear corners have been reinforced on the reverse with tape.

A fictionalized autobiography, in the form of a gardening memoir, set in a genteel English country house. Lushington (1892-1965) was a career officer in the Royal Artillery; this is his first novel, preceded by a memoir of service in the Great War. The current work uncommon, especially in the delicate foil dustwrapper.
