Erste Ausgabe. - Niklas Müller (1809 - 1875) zog nach seiner Ausbildung zum Drucker von 1828 bis 1830 als Geselle durch Österreich und Ungarn und arbeitete danach als Drucker bei Cotta. 1837 gab Gustav Schwab unter dem Titel "Lieder" ein hübsches Bändchen heraus, "das dem jungen Autodidakten durch die Innigkeit der Empfindung und die überraschend kunstgerechte Form viel Anerkennung . verschaffte." (ADB). In Wertheim am Main erwarb Müller später eine Buchdruckerei und den Verlag eines Wochenblattes. Wegen Beteiligung an der badischen Revolution 1848/49 mußte er in die Schweiz flüchten. Von dort wanderte er 1853 nach Amerika aus. In New York konnte er wieder eine Druckerei einrichten (Nic. Müllers Buchdruckerei, 48 Beekman Street). "In dieser erschien 1867 'Neuere Lieder und Gedichte', unter denen noch manche schöne Nachblüthe erfreut" (ADB).
