The o…rganizers state in the preface: "The Anthology we are now presenting differs substantially from the three editions of the 'Antologia da Novíssima Poesia Portuguesa' that we organized and published in 1959, 1961 and 1971. It aims to provide an overview of the fundamental texts of contemporary Portuguese poetry, from the Second World War (1939/45) to the present day. Hence the new title with which our work is presented. Therefore the criteria adopted and their justifications are somewhat different from the criteria and justifications pertinent to a possible 4th edition of the 'Antologia da Novíssima Poesia Portuguesa' - a 4th edition whose viability is hereby set aside, since the critical experience and selective work that underpinned it were the basis on which we prepared the present Anthology, once they had been duly corrected. The 'Antologia da Novíssima Poesia' was born as a generational anthology of the new generation that emerged at the beginning of the 50s. The successive editions were modified according to the evolution of the Poetry, with its new names, characteristics and problems, constituting three different synchronic perspectives. In this way, the original concept was diluted until it became meaningless today.
