Edward 'Celtic' Davies, 1756-1831, wrote on Celtic language & mythology and was important in the reinvention of druidic traditions. His interests did not lead him into deliberate forgeries, such as those perpetuated by his contemporary Iolo Mor…ganwg (bardic name of Edward Williams), some of which Davies accepted as genuine. Davies praises Macpherson's verse while suggesting that he would have done better to have said from the start that his work had been based on fragments of the ancient bards, rather than creating the Ossianic myth. William Blake was influenced by Davies' Celtic Researches and writings on Druids.
